A Letter from Our Chair

Greetings from OA Dallas Metroplex Intergroup!

Intergroup meetings of late have had low attendance, and we are concerned that important information is not getting out to the groups. Our last meeting had fewer than 10 people in attendance, yet there are about 45 participant groups in our intergroup, so not everybody has been represented lately. Please forward this information to your networks. Thanks!

A few announcements as we prepare for our upcoming DMI business meeting on July 20th at 6:00 p.m.:

July is a regular elections month. We will be electing the following positions. If you know of somebody who is qualified, please invite them to attend.

1 year abstinence requirement: Vice Chair, Treasurer, Board Advisor
90 days abstinence requirement: Lifeline Director, Tri-County Liaison, Outreach, Phone Hotline, Speakers Bureau, Institutions

Also on the proposed agenda for July is discussion about the DMI office lease renewal. Our lease is up at the end of September. The leasing agents are offering us competitive pricing for a 3-year or 5-year renewal, but it is different from what we currently pay. Nobody representing the groups that reside at the DMI Office was present at the last meeting, and decisions affecting these groups may be made at the July meeting.

Reminder that the silent retreat hosted by McKinney group is earlier than usual this year, in early September. Registration info is available at our website, http://www.oadallas.org.

Also, we would like submissions — one line, one paragraph, or longer — for inclusion in the Letters of Hope. Heard something at a meeting that was helpful to you? Have an experience to share? How will you be handling beck-to-school or the holidays? Remember, together we get better!  Send submissions to rosej2911@yahoo.com.

It is not too late to get involved with the planning team for our annual convention, to be held at the DFW Airport Westin, February 27-March 1 of 2015. Theme this year is “Step It Up!” Meetings are held at the DMI Office, on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 3:00 p.m.

Region 3 is planning an OA cruise for next spring also — March 22-29, 2015, sailing out of Galveston. The group is also raffling off a free cruise (or reimbursement if you’re already booked) and your faithful delegates, Joy C and Kay S have raffle tickets available, $10 each or 3/$25. As always, our key question is this: What are we doing today to help the compulsive eater who still suffers?
